A guide to having a garage sale in Springdale

Posted on June 1, 2018 at 4:40 PM by Melissa Reeves

garage sale signIt’s that time of year again — after spending all winter couped up, you’ve realized you have too much stuff! Your garage is full, your attic has reached its limit, and maybe you could use a few extra bucks, anyway. A garage sale is the perfect solution for these issues.

But before you start putting up your signs, make sure you are fully aware of all the rules related to having a garage sale in Springdale. If you have any questions, please call the Building Department at 750-8154.

Permit Limitation
You must have a permit to operate a garage sale. Permits are $10. Permits for yard sales, rummage sales and garage sales are valid for up to two (2) consecutive days and will not be granted for the same location more than two (2) times during any calendar year.

Sign Display
You are not allowed to post garage sale signs on street or stop signs, telephone, light or cable-TV poles. It is a violation of State Law to post any signs on utility poles. Garage sale signs cannot be placed any closer than 10 feet to the street. Additionally, you have to wait until two (2) days prior to the first day of sale to put up your signs and all signs must be removed by the beginning of the first business day following the last day of the sale. Violations of any of these ordinances may result in the signs being removed and disposed of immediately and may result in a citation being issued.

Garage sales are a great way to lighten your load and make some extra cash. As long as you follow the rules, it should be smooth sailing!

Note:
Garage/yard/rummage sales conducted on school property by organizations affiliated with the school are exempt from these permit requirements. Commercial properties must have an open air permit to operate a yard sale.
