Cambridge Street Improvement Project Update

Cambridge Update

Update - Sept. 29, 2017

Crews have finished paving, striping the road, installing street lights and street signs. They are currently working on punch list items such as ensuring the light poles are in working order, installing handrails on the inlet headwalls, and putting minor patches on sidewalks.

Thank you for your patience this past year as we worked to improve this road. We have appreciated the cooperation from the residents and businesses on Cambridge St., as well as from all Springdale residents who travel through this area.

Update - Sept. 7, 2017

The Cambridge St. lane closure will be extended through Friday to allow the contractor time to complete setting the asphalt. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Please see map for reference.

Update - Sept. 5, 2017

Cambridge St., from Don Tyson Parkway to north of Chapman Ave., will be reduced to one lane from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6 and Thursday, Sept. 7. Workers will be directing traffic so crews can finish setting the asphalt surface over the road. They will keep one lane open and will have someone on site directing traffic. All dates are weather permitting.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Please see map for reference.

Update - Aug. 16, 2017

The contractor has completed placing all of the box culverts and concrete pipe underneath the roadway. They are working to complete the remaining inlets and approximately 800 feet of curb and sidewalk. They have also finished milling the existing asphalt pavement and plan to set the asphalt surface course from Don Tyson Parkway to north of Arapaho Avenue.

In order to complete this work, Cambridge St. will be reduced to one lane 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., August 21-25, weather permitting, with workers directing traffic. Once the asphalt work is complete, all that remains will be striping, installing streetlights, and sodding the remaining exposed areas. This project is expected to be completed by mid-September.

Update - July 14, 2017

Springdale – Cambridge Street north of Arapaho Avenue will be closed from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. from Wednesday, July 19 to Friday, July 21, weather permitting, so crews can finish installing box culverts. This is a rescheduling of the previously postponed closure.

Update - May 15, 2017

The Cambridge Street Improvement Project is on track to be completed by September. Despite setbacks, this project has remained on course for its initial completion date. So far, 80% of the box culverts have been installed, and almost half of the curb, gutter, and sidewalk improvements are complete. Additionally, more than half of the inlets have been installed, and all water and sewer lines have been installed and are now operational.

Once the aforementioned improvements are done, crews will finish up by milling, overlaying, and striping the road. The contract completion date is September 1.

Original News Release - Aug. 23, 2016

Cambridge Street improvement project to begin mid-September

A project to improve Cambridge Street and its associated drainage channel is scheduled to begin mid-September. Two contracts have been awarded to ARCO Excavation & Paving for the widening and drainage improvements, and the water and sewer improvements.

A curb and gutter on Cambridge Street will be constructed and a double-barrel box culvert will be installed, which will eliminate the road drop-off and prevent further erosion. A sidewalk will be added over the box culvert and the road will be widened to add a turn lane. This project should help ease traffic on Cambridge Street and increase road safety during heavy rainfall.

The total contract amount approved by City Council on Aug. 9, 2016 is $4,595,025.10. The City will receive a $1 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration for the street and drainage improvements, and an estimated $630,000 will be reimbursed by the Springdale Water Utilities for the water and sewer improvements.

The contract is for 360 calendar days beginning Sept. 6, 2016; 180 of those days are for the water and sewer improvements, which are scheduled to be completed first.

The public and the media will be notified of any road closures related to this project.
