Two Arrested in Connection with Metal Thefts

The Springdale Police Department has charged two (2) men in connection with a series of scrap metal thefts from several businesses in Springdale. Carl Woods (40), of Clifty, is charged with 2 counts of Theft by Receiving (felony) and Mark McDonnell (47) ,of Siloam Springs, is being charged with two counts of Theft of Property (felony) and criminal trespass. Approx. 15,000 lbs of copper and scrap metal was taken by the suspects. To date, approx. 5000 lbs has been recovered. The material (valued at $45,000), was taken from Seeburg Muffler and American Tubing, both located in Springdale. The suspects were apprehended while attempting to sell some of the material in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The investigation continues.

 

Springdale Man Arrested After Discharging Firearm

On April 23, 2010, at approx. 400AM, Dwayne Gipson (34), was arrested on several charges following a disturbance at 1101 #A2 Backus which resulted in a firearm being discharged. During an altercation with his girlfriend and a family member, Mr. Gipson physically assaulted them, made threats with a knife and a firearm, and fired an AK-47 assault rifle/pistol inside and outside the apartment. No injuries were sustained during the incident or during the arrest. The suspect was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Family Member (4 counts), Terroristic Threats (2 counts), Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Domestic Battery 3rd (2 counts).

 

Man Arrested After Commercial Burglary

 On April 10, 2010 at approx. 00:28AM, the Springdale Police Department responded to an alarm at Harp's Foods, located at 1945 Butterfield Coach Road. While the officers were checking the security of the closed business, a male wearing a ski mask and carrying a shovel attempted to exit the store through a service door. The officers began chasing the suspect, later identified as Allen Sparks (35), through the store. The suspect attempted to evade officers by overturning several display racks while running away. Mr. Sparks was eventually taken into custody. During the initial investigation, it was learned that Mr. Sparks had hid in the store until it closed with the purpose of obtaining drugs from the pharmacy. A sack of tobacco/cigarette products were located near the exit of the store and a morphine pill was discovered during a search of the suspect. Mr. Sparks was charged with Commercial Burglary (felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance (felony), Theft of Property (misdemeanor), and Criminal Mischief 1st degree (misdemeanor).
