City of Springdale
Public Works Department
Snow and Ice Removal Procedure
When there is a snow or ice event in the City of Springdale, the Public Works Department has employees that work day and night when needed to keep our streets passable for our citizens. The Public Works Department currently has 1 motor grader, 4 loaders, 2 dump trucks with snow plow attachments, 3 chemical sprayer truck attachments and 2 gravel/chat spreaders. We use sand, salt, chat and liquid magnesium chloride to aid in snow and ice removal.
The Public Works Department is responsible for snow and ice removal for over 900 lane miles of city streets. Arkansas Highway and Transportation Division is responsible for all maintenance on State Highways, these include; Interstate 540 and its multiple interchanges, Hwy 412, Hwy 71B, Hwy 265, Hwy 264, Hwy 112.
Public Works generally begins ice or snow removal near Northwest Medical Center, Springdale Fire Stations and Springdale Police Department. We then move on to the mountain area roads such as Callahan Mt. Rd.,Woodcliff Rd., etc. then intersections of the major thoroughfares such as Don Tyson Blvd.,HuntsvilleAve.,Wagon Wheel Rd., etc.
In addition to all of the areas mentioned, Public Works is in continuous contact with The Springdale Police Department during snow and ice events so that they may inform us of other treacherous areas.
**Although each City and State do their best to make travel safe during snow and ice events, it is always best to not travel unless absolutely necessary to avoid accidents and or injury.** |
