Spirit Award Q4 Student Winner: Michael Justis
The student Spirit Award winner is a young man who is truly a community servant. Michael Justis was nominated by School Board Member Kathy McFetridge and Library Media Specialist with Springdale High School, Cat Peters. In their nominations, they both spoke of how academically accomplished Michael is, and his school spirit.

“Michael leads the Spirit Group during the games for SHS (Springdale High School),” wrote McFetridge. “He takes this position quite seriously and the crowd loves him.” Michael has been involved in many organizations at SHS, including the National Honor Society, baseball, band, and robotics.

“Michael was recently voted president of Key Club by his peers and is busy planning fall service projects that will benefit the citizens of Springdale,” wrote Peters. “For example, he is organizing a group of students to read to elementary students and is leading a book drive to collect books for the Little Free Libraries in Springdale.”

But Michael’s commitment to Springdale doesn’t stop when he leaves school. He also volunteers in the community.

“Michael attends church regularly and volunteers at the local food bank for St. Raphael’s Catholic Church,” wrote McFetridge.

In addition to the food bank, Michael also participates in Kiwanis events, the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Walk for Kids, and the Springdale Little Olympics.

In the future, Michael wants to be involved with sports analytics, and he has already been accepted into the University of Arkansas’s honor program. Thank you, Michael, for your hard work and service to our community!
