Have you seen colored markings or flags in your yard?

There is a great deal of development and construction activity in Springdale right now. The sudden appearance of colored markings or flags in your yard generally indicates that someone is planning an excavation project in the immediate area. The markings indicate where various utility lines are buried so those utility line won't be damaged by the excavation project. The markings are required by State law.

This chart below is a handy guide to help you decode what the colored markings and flags indicate:


Most of the activities are private projects, not City projects. The best source of information about the markings is Arkansas One Call. You can reach them by calling 811 or 1-800-482-8998.

Arkansas Code Annotated, 14-271-112. 
Notice of intent to excavate or demolish. (a) Except as provided in § 14-271-109, no person may engage in excavation or demolition activities without having first notified the One Call Center in accordance with the provisions listed in this section. (b) (1) Each person responsible for any excavation or demolition operation shall serve written or telephonic notice of intent to excavate or demolish at least two (2), but not more than ten (10), full working days before commencing this activity. (2) The notice of intent shall be delivered to the One Call Center.
