#OnthisdayinOzarkHistory in 1840, the Huntsville Post Office in Madison County was officially named. Explorers from Alabama named the town Huntsville in 1827 in honor of their hometown, which, like Huntsville, Arkansas, also claims Madison County as its county seat.
Shown here is an undated postcard of the post office from the early to mid-20th century. Photo is from the museum's May Reed Markley Collection (S-84-155-56).
