Springdale Nuisance Abatement Partnership

The Springdale Police Department adopted the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) concept in July of 2006 under the direction of Police Chief Kathy O'Kelley. Law enforcement officers are specially trained in CPTED and work with the Springdale Planning Department as well as architects and other city officials to help ensure the proper design of structures, schools, and neighborhoods.

Officers are trained to know how the design and use of the environment can control human / criminal behavior and help reduce the fear of crime. By understanding crime prevention through natural means such as design for natural surveillance and access control it will help decrease the opportunity for crime to happen.

The Springdale Police Department takes pride in the city it protects and with the proper design and effective use of the built environment it can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime and help improve the quality of life for citizens in Springdale.

SurveysThe Springdale Police Department also offers CPTED Surveys that can be completed by a CPTED Officer for any residential home or commercial building that is already built to make suggestions to help with crime prevention. Once the survey is complete the CPTED Officer will meet with the person and go over the results.
