School Resource Officer

The School Resource Officer (SRO) program is one of the largest in the state. Establishing a partnership between the school district and utilizing federal COPS grant funding, 18 SRO’s patrol the campuses of Springdale’s public schools. In addition to patrolling school campuses, investigating criminal activity, teaching classes, and building relationships with students, parents, and faculty, the SRO’s are active in our community in a number of community events.

Duties

The School Resource Officers teach blocks of instruction in health and law subjects. They also assist school personnel in situations that benefit from a law enforcement intervention.

Programs

The Springdale High School Law and Public Safety Academy program, which is a three year course of study, is offered to interested students. An application process is utilized to enter the program. Normally 60-65 students are enrolled in the program.

In the summer School Resource Officers work with local students in the Youth Academy. This program is 2 weeks in length and two sessions are held over the summer break. The Youth Academy is designed to help students who are court ordered, placed by parents, and self interested in developing into productive members of our community. This program usually has approximately 40 participants per session.
