On Saturday, we partnered with the American Red Cross for the annual "Sound the Alarm" smoke alarm drive. Crews from Stations 3 and 5 were out with volunteers from the Red Cross, canvassing neighborhoods and installing free smoke alarms. All together we installed 70 alarms. With the time getting ready to "fall back", be sure and change the batteries in your smoke alarms.

Maintaining physical fitness is such a crucial part of our job. Early this morning 1st Battalion, which consists of our fire stations 1, 2, 3, 5, and 8, conducted the “Gear Grinder” workout. This event tests the firefighters physical and mental abilities. They complete each workout station multiple times and continuously breath air from their SCBA's until their tank is empty.

This week was Fire Prevention Week across the country. Since Springdale has so many schools we want to reach, we have Fire Prevention Month. We begin visiting elementary schools all across the city this week to deliver this year's fire safety theme programs, "Cooking safety starts with You. Pay attention to fire prevention". A special thank you to Jan Phillips with State Farm Insurance for helping provide some of our educational material we share with the students.

Watching the sunrise come up Monday morning over the Springdale Country Club was breathtaking and gave us a reminder of what the day means. The 4th annual Fairways Fore Firefighters had an excellent turn out, with 104 golfers participating. All of the proceeds went to support our benevolent fund. Each golfer played for one of the fallen 343 members of the FDNY. We couldn't host an event of this caliber without the support of our sponsors. We want to recognize Milestone Construction for being our Chief Sponsor, who has graciously contributed at this level for each of our four tournaments. We would also like to mention MBL Architects, Sam's Club #4808 in Springdale, Macadoodles, Chick-fil-A in Springdale, Aaron Adams Insurance agent Nick Emerson, ServiceMaster, and Northwest Restoration. We appreciate our sponsors for all of the support that has been given to this event.

This week, Chief Blake Holte, along with other area fire departments' representatives, traveled to visit the West Metro Fire District in Denver. The purpose was to develop a better understanding of regional responses and to collaborate with West Metro Fire District and gain their perspective. Just another example of the teamwork and energy behind NWA Fire/EMS organizations.
