Early this morning, crews responded to a residential structure fire on Kasey Avenue. Engine 5 arrived on the scene to find heavy fire from the front of the structure. The fire was extinguished and declared under control within about 16 minutes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. #teamspringdale #springdalefire

Several of our recruit firefighters are nearing the end of their probationary period. Numerous checkoffs are required to demonstrate competence in their skills. Today, Engine 5 and Ladder 8 worked on vertical ventilation. This tactic helps improve conditions throughout a structure fire by removing the heat and smoke through an opening in the roof.. #teamspringdale #springdalefire

Firefighters are significantly more likely to develop many types of cancer than the general population, largely due to the high levels of carcinogens and other toxins found in burning buildings and hazardous environments. Firefighters have a 9 percent higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14 percent higher risk of dying from cancer than the general U.S. population, according to research by the CDC/National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH). Please join us as we recognize Cancer Awareness Month.
