Lost a Pet

If you have lost a pet, we know it is stressful. Below is a guideline when looking for your pet:

  • Make sure your pet's microchip registry information is up to date.

  • Search your home and yard first. Inside: check under furniture, in closets, garages and in closed rooms. Outside: check under sheds, porches and even along the fence to make sure your pet isn't stuck.

  • Talk with your neighbors to see if they may have seen or picked up your pet to keep it safe.

  • Talk with your mail carrier for any sightings of your pet.

  • Visit the list of animals in our care on our Facebook page. We have an album for Dogs here and an album for Cats here. If your pet is at our shelter, please come in immediately during business hours to reclaim. As with all animals at our shelter, we cannot guarantee the final outcome. To reclaim your pet, you MUST have a valid photo ID, be over 18 years of age and if pet is not microchipped there will be a microchip fee of $20.

  • Search and post a clear picture on Lost and Found Pet websites and Facebook pages to find out if someone has found your pet. Some common places online are below. There may be other websites specific to your area/neighborhood as well.

    • PawBoost.com

    • Nextdoor.com

  • Post lost flyers (with a clear picture and description of your pet) within a one to two mile radius.

Finding a Dog

Finding a pet all alone can tug at the heart strings! Most times a stray dog is within 1 mile of their home. The owner or guardian may already be looking for it.

If you have found an injured, aggressive or sick pet, please contact Animal Control through the city's Police Dispatch at 479-751-4542. Please Note: After-hour Animal Control officers are only available for emergencies. Emergency calls should be made for injured, sick/suffering or aggressive domestic animals only.

Before you bring the pet to the shelter or call animal control for a non-emergency, try to reunite the dog with the owner.

  • Check for ID tags and have the dog scanned for a microchip at a nearby veterinary clinic or animal emergency clinic to see if an owner can be contacted and reunited right away.

  • Take the dog for a walk around the neighborhood where it was found and ask neighbors if they know where the dog lives.

  • Contact the animal shelter in the city/county where you found the pet to see if anyone has already reported the pet missing. Make a found pet report at that shelter if needed.

  • Post a Found Pet Flyer (with a clear photo and description) in the neighborhood where pet was found.

  • Search and post a clear picture on Lost and Found Pet websites and Facebook pages to find out if someone is missing this pet. Some common places online are below. There may be other websites specific to the area/neighborhood the pet was found as well.

    • PawBoost.com

    • Nextdoor.com

    • Search Facebook for Lost and Found pet pages in your area

  • If no owner is found within a few days, take to the animal shelter in the city/county where you found the pet. It is EXTEMELY important to get the animal to the correct shelter, if someone is looking for this pet they would be looking in the city/county where it went missing. Please keep in mind, if the animal is skinny or dirty when you found it, it may have been lost for several days or a week before allowing someone to pick it up.
