A Message from Mayor Doug Sprouse

"To the voters of Springdale,

I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude and excitement for the strong support you demonstrated yesterday for the future of Springdale.  Since becoming your mayor over 14 years ago, yesterday was the third time Iā€™ve asked for your support at the polls to approve bonds to be funded by our existing city sales tax, so that we can continue important improvements to address our rapid growth.  In the two previous bond elections, (2012 and 2018), approval numbers for all ballot questions ranged from 74% to well over 80%.  That level of support in todayā€™s world is almost unheard of.  But yesterday, you passed all six ballot questions by between 81-87%.   This shows phenomenal support for our city.  This strong support also reinforces to our hard-working city employees that you appreciate them and the work they do.

I know that I speak for our City Council when I say that we do not take this strong support for granted.  While thankful beyond words, we all realize that with this support comes tremendous responsibility to you, our residents.   My ongoing pledge to you, is that we will continue to be wise stewards of the resources that you provide.  With your input, and the advice and expertise from trusted professionals we will engage on each of these chosen projects, Iā€™m confident we will be able make the right decisions that will insure long lasting positive results for our residents.

There is one basic purpose for city government to exist.  That purpose is to take the resources you provide, (through taxes and fees), and return it to you through the services you want and need.  Whether emergency services that help protect life and property, or providing the infrastructure needed to address our rapid growth, or proper planning to guide what that growth looks like, or parks, trails, and other facilities and programs that improve quality of life for all our residents- these are but a few examples of the services a city provides.  That is truly our purpose.  We will continue to take that responsibility seriously, in an effort to earn your continued trust and support.

Thank you to our Chamber of Commerce, our Downtown Springdale Alliance, the amazing support of our business community, our school district, and so many other local organizations.  To our city staff, from the mayorā€™s office, to every department head, to each of our employees, thank you.  Iā€™m thankful for the support of our City Council and our Planning Commission, along with all other city boards and commissions.  And, of course, as I began this letter, thank you to our voters.  But Iā€™m thankful, most of all, that God planted my family in Springdale when I was 8 years old, and has allowed me and my family to ā€œdo lifeā€ and to serve in such an amazing community.  I have no doubt our best days are ahead.  Again, thank you all!

Looking forward,

Mayor Doug Sprouse"
